This is my design proposal for the remodeling and expansion and new modern façade for your Norwegian home. First of all, the inspiration examples you had chosen were carefully studied and incorporated into the design of the house (check the “inspiration links incorporation” board). The overall concept is to expand the existing property within the set limits by using the existing structure as a foundation – the new 3rd story and roof would have a cheap, fast and easy-to-build wooden structure, sitting on top of the existing concrete walls.
On the 1st floor there is the existing bathroom and 3 new equally sized bedrooms for the kids, as well as play/study room with direct access to the garden.
On the 2nd floor a new laundry room is created with its own back porch for drying laundry, entry for dirty shoes etc. as well as a storage room next to the entrance. Interior-wise two loft spaces are created – one above the dining room and one above the living room, giving those important spaces the much needed height and openness. The dining room, kitchen and living room are incorporated into a single space with the stair and fireplace having a central role in the overall design of the space. This entire space opens up to the new porch via large sliding windows.
On the 3rd floor a new master bedroom is created facing the fantastic view from the large windows. The study area next to the loft overlooking the dining area also has a good view over the bay. A master bathroom with separate toilet, shower and sauna is also created, as well as a walk-in closet room.
Pivotal points in the exterior design are the large covered porches with an accent on an “observation deck” connected to the master bedroom on the 3rd story. The exterior design materials are natural wood siding “malmfuru” and exposed concrete – easy to build and maintain.
I hope you like my design :)
