We are looking to furnish and decorate our master bedroom. Right now, there is a very minimal amount of furniture, and the aesthetic of the room is very lacking. The main area of the room is approximately 15’ x 19’. There is also an “entrance” area to the master suite, a large bathroom, walk in closet and make-up area. The bathroom and closet are already complete and don’t really need any work.
Most of the room has a 8’ ceiling, but there is a vaulted section that has a dormer window. The floor is dark stained hickory, and the walls are painted with a Benjamin Moore Color called Barren Plain. The ceilings are painted flat white. Depending on the light, the wall color looks like a taupe, warm grey, or sometimes with a hint of lilac.
There are custom built-ins by the bed, and also 2 niches above the built-ins that have recessed lights – I’d like to put some nice sculptural items there. The makeup area has cabinets and a countertop.
All the furniture can be replaced, except I’d like to keep the two wingback chairs. I think they very nicely represent the style we’re envisioning for the room, which is fairly modern, but softer. I’d also like to keep the chandelier, the large mirror and possibly the rug and arc floor lamp. The rug is 9’ x 12’.
The rest of the house is fairly modern – we vastly prefer a more Italian/Spanish/Scandinavian modern look vs contemporary American. The color scheme of most of the house is shades of light to medium gray and dark woods.
I would like a space plan with a king size bed, the wingback chairs, rugs, tables, and any other furniture you would recommend . Please include window treatments for the bedroom, bathroom and makeup area picture window in your design. Please also consider placement of the large silver mirror. Finally please include pendant lights for the makeup area, and a possible replacement of the wall lamps in the bathroom. Use and list specific items when you place the furniture, and please specify the fabric type and color. Of course, 3D views and elevations will certainly be helpful.
We are looking for a comfortable, modern and luxurious room – without being cluttered. I like the high end hotel suite look. Besides the existing wingback chairs, I’d like to limit the use of leather (for example, we don’t want a leather bed). I’d like to of course have a sleeping area with a king size bed, and a reading area (utilizing the wingback chairs). The makeup area can be altered (for example by removing the cabinets and replacing them with something else) but can also be left alone. A TV is not required, but if it’s included, it should be concealed in some way.
In terms of our style, we like to shop at Room and Board, Ligne Roset, BO Concept, occasionally at Crate and Barrel. I prefer streamlined over fancy, with a high comfort level. I do not like the pottery barn look, and prefer solid colors or suble patterns vs bold prints. Buttonless tufting is acceptable, but any additional nailhead trim is not. I usually prefer shades of grey, neutrals, and medium to dark brown tones, however, an occasional pop of color or a pattern, judiciously applied, can be a good thing.
I am looking for a stunning design that is sumptuous, luxurious and comfortable. The room should not feel either barren or overfilled. Our budget is $7000-10,000, but fairly flexible. Certainly less is better. All items specified should be readily available in the US.
