After 10 years in our home, we are ready to renovate and update our home which was built in 1985 and has not had much done to it other than maintenance. The primary focus is to tear down the existing garage and connector to build a two story addition and to renovate the kitchen.
The top story addition would include a master suite (2 closets, 5 piece master bath but not an enormous space), an office and a sitting area.
Downstairs would need to include a renovated kitchen, bathroom, and mudroom.
The mudroom would need to include washer/dryer, project/folding table, ironing board, mop sink and lockers/cubbies for kids bookbags, etc. Also include a desk and filing cabinets. This is the room that mom will spend lots of time in whether it is doing laundry or working from home so it has to be fantastic use of space.
Kitchen: Double ovens and pantry are essential. Current kitchen has a water heater closet which can be moved. We will be coverting to gas but I do not want a gas range in an island.
Garage needs to accomodate 2 cars and an added workshop.
Overall we are willing to expand the footprint of the house out by approximately 15 feet.
We want to achieve more functional space that helps reduce and organize clutter. Want to take better advantage of the views out of the back of the house.
Style wise - I do not like mid-century modern or contemporary. We like arts and craft/mission style. Like rustic kitchen looks (French or tuscan styles). Clean simple lines with not a lot of embellishment.
We will be implemmenting this project.
We would be willing to continue to work with the designer.
No grantie countertops, no carpets...contemplating cork/bamboo flooring.
Eco-friendly, low maintenance and cost effective are essential. We will be looking to furnish the addition with existing or reclaimed pieces.
House should factor in wear and tear caused by kids. We are looking for a functional and warm home...not necessairly a showpiece.
For the Kitchen: Double ovens, farmhouse sink, gas range with hood and a large window looking out the back of the house. With the addition of a pantry, we would need less overhead cabinet space. Kitchen should be warm and inviting.
Eco-friendly, affordable and green design will be given big points. Creative use of space to minimize clutter and provide visually clean lines will be a plus. Arts & Craft details will be a plus. This project is the start of an whole house overhaul that will be done in stages. Eventually we will also renovate the facade of the house and the remaining rooms as well.
