The main idea associated to this project was to maximize and provide space flexibility in order to allow different daily space configuration to give answers to the client needs. In order to allow that intention, all interior walls were demolished (only beams and columns were kept).
The concept of an open space dedicated to living areas was the projects origin idea. To provide affordability and future possible readapting works (such as to allow the two apartments configuration) I decided to develop the project with light construction, and mainly draw the space with furniture (fixed or movable). Following the same principle of affordability the kitchen and bathrooms location was kept.
The space is clearly divided in a more social area and an intimate area. It’s possible to keep this separation or to unify both areas according to the client’s intentions.
The space organization it’s simple and clear, in the north side are located the water technical areas (bathrooms, kitchen, laundry and storage areas). All living areas are located in the south areas and have direct communication with the exterior (west side living/dining room, east side bedrooms).
The master and teenage bedroom are located near the family bedroom in order to provide an intimate utilization. The family bathroom is divided in 3 areas, washbasin area, shower area and toilet area to allow simultaneous use by the family. The guest’s bathroom haves the same principle configuration and the west guest room localization (movable cabinet) is made in order to allow a closer relation with the bathroom if needed.
The guest room transformation doesn’t affect the normal use of the apartment, so living areas are kept.
The kitchen it’s an open space but it’s possible to hide, to prevent dirty dishes visualization or other.
The working area it’s near the dinner room but it’s possible to use the movable balcony to that effect to. This area could work as a bar, extension of the kitchen/laundry, working area or other.
If you want to have a party or a larger dinner room it’s possible to move the teenage bedroom cabinet and use a larger table or a simply larger open space.
In order to hide beams and columns its proposed a grid at the same level who hide the Y arms and creates the dominant height in the project.
Materials are divided in two. Water areas have aluminum cabinets/closets/balcony’s living areas have wooden cabinets/closets/balcony’s . I propose only one material in the floor (self-leveling aerated concrete painted white). All lights are recessed spots. In bathrooms I propose also lateral recessed lights.
